Coaching yourself.
I ran half a mile this morning.
Yes, half a mile, not even a full mile. And I’m proud of myself!
This run wasn’t for my body. It wasn’t for anything but my brain.
I woke up this morning feeling like my brain was about to explode with all of the thoughts, the multi-step actions and the deep thinking that needed to be done.
After some internal struggles (and some whining), I coached myself. I asked myself, “What do I most need right now?” I listened to my body and knew I needed some big movement to really clear my head.
All I could manage was half a mile running and walking another half mile AND IT WAS ENOUGH.
It was what I needed to reset my day. The movement cleared my mind, and I was able to start the day clear-headed and focused.
Our actions don’t have to be big to make a difference.
It helps to ask the question, “what do I most need right now” and listen closely. Then act on what we can in the moment.
Bottom line:
1) Movement matters.
2) Small actions can make a big difference.
